We thought some of you would be interested in knowing how Soy Valley began. So we’ve decided to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and tell you a little bit about our company.

 Since the winter of 2005 when our Son Wyatt was born, we have wanted to start a business of our own. When Wyatt turned one, he suffered his first asthma attack which put him in the hospital for about a week. That, in turn, prompted us to make some household changes like adding air purifiers, different bedding, a ritual of asthma treatments began and burning candles in the house quickly became a thing of the past.

In our journey of seeking out asthma friendly products, we read that soy candles don’t have the same effect on asthmatics as regular candles and were amazed over all of the differences between soy wax and regular paraffin wax. After a long search, we found and purchased our first soy wax candle. We liked that it kept its promise of no black soot and our son seemed totally unaffected by the burning candle, but we were not impressed with the scent or with the minimal selection of fragrances we had to choose from.

While looking through the many home based business publications we were receiving at that time, we came across an ad that offered “guaranteed success” selling …soy wax candles. It claimed that “anyone can be a success selling our candles if you follow our plan.” We went online and looked further into this “plan” and found that we were being asked to invest a lot of our time and money into buying someone else’s product, selling it their way, putting our credibility and good name on the line while having no control over quality and little control of customer satisfaction. We decided not to fall victim to another “get rich” scheme.

We liked the idea of a soy candle business and we said, “wouldn’t it be great if we could make our own candles and sell them our own way”?  We talked for a few days about how we would offer quality candles in a large variety of uncommon fragrances, listen to what our customers want, and combine the great qualities of soy wax with the reasons people love candles in the first place.  We felt good about where our discussions were taking us and during the late spring of 2006 we decided that we would work, research and purchase the tools necessary to make soy candles our business and offer candle lovers a candle they can feel good about burning in their homes.

We experimented for months until we felt that we had the quality candle we were striving for and in February of 2007 Soy Valley Candle Makers was founded. We sincerely hope you enjoy Soy Valley candles and make us your choice for all your soy candle needs.
